[Vwdiesel] Oil question

Living in Temagami (just north of North Bay, Ontario) I used Rotella synth
5W40 in winter. Plugged in for an hour before starting in -35 temps (C and
F are just about the same at that level!) with a builtin block heater and
battery warmer and the plugs cycled for about 5 secs and the engine hit
within a second or so and ran smooth after about 10 secs. At those temps
without the plugin, I could still start by cycling the glowplugs a couple of
times. Musta hurt the battery some. Engine chugged a bit (!) before
smoothing out. But, never failed to start as long as the glowplugs were OK.
BTW, I have an 850CCA battery, 2ga wiring from battery to ground and
starter.
I'm now living in arguably the most temperate climate in Canukistan --
Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. In February, typical low/high is about 3C and
8C. Last year I got a sunburn fishing late February -- it was 15C, bright
and sunny, had the shirt off. Caught a couple of 1lb rainbows on the lake
where I live. Life's a bitch. Doesn't get much better than that. (End of
gloat).
