Well Hagar I have to disagree.  There are quite a few of us in the 
States that own guns, use guns, and are quite capable of defending 
ourselves.  There are numerous places here in the lower 48 that if you 
wait for official help you will not make it, the bad guys will have you 
and yours feeding the crows.  Let alone when the "system" breaks down.  
Unfortunately the only news feed on this subject we get is the stories 
where the bad guys are the armed ones and are running amuck.  How many 
areas in the hurricane's path are at peace because the citizens are 
armed and are keeping the peace.  It is a fact and has been reported 
with previous hurricanes and earthquake area.
