[Vwdiesel] Why #3

Every blown up vanagon diesel that I have heard about tossed rod #3.  Why is
it always #3?  Is that the same for rabbit/jetta (you don't hear about those
very often-vanagon diesel rod tossing is pandemic)?

Hagar likes questions like that --- it keeps me from sitting here feeling sorry --for
myself.----gets my mind of my minuscule problems.

My knee-jerk thought ? ------ they suffer from the MYTH  --that you can use the torque of
diesels---YES -----BUT NOT if it is a VW diesel. --use RPM --not torque for more power. I
read about Vanagons --being---powered by 1.6 L Turbos --4 cylinders --Ja ?  ---that is a
lot to ask of that little JEWEL of a powerplant.  --Ja ? ----over fueling plus over
boosting ? advancing pump too much ?-----poor little thing.

Why is it --that #4  glowplug fails first ?  ---the square LAW.   double voltage increase
POWER by 4.

Now lets look at the crank  ---say we have the thing on a dyno ?  a 1.6L VW will pull 100
Hp in style.--------that means that # 1 cran-kpin handles 25 HP ? --Ja ?   # 2 50HP  # 3
75 HP and # 4  100 HP.

100 HP  is a lot of torque on a pin that size.---so we have to expect a bit of twisting
and vibration in or----    about pin # 3 and # 4.-----Andrew   you did not give us enough
inf. FACTUAL  on what really failed.       ----I do remember you talking about Big end Cap
bolts.    As a flyboy I am aware of the curse of RESONANCE  --it will kill a flyboy and
did kill many.--Flutter ?  ---yes I had it in a rotor close to the ground in that Bensen
Gyrocopter.---so I am still here.  ---FIX ? you bet  right on the spot  --a
REAL --------------Hagar Hillbilly FIX--- Hacksaw fix--- cut 4.5 inches US of the tip of
the Blades ---in 1964-----------------2005   they still fly like a dream.    ----Torsion ?
you bet --we have people here that are better---qualified to explain --than Hagar.-----why
a damper on Crank? -----RESONANCE  by torsion input.

you guys remember ,Hagar is NOT a mechanic ---I am a fanatic DIY person ---so I pick
BRAINS and EXPERIENCE  where ever I can find it.---yes I even picked Bob Hoovers brain
Let me tell you guys that man was a class act --IMHO.----Strawhat and all.---wonder if HE
remembers Hagar ?--I should think NOT.

During my 73 year journey ---I was blessed by meeting some incredibly gifted people ---I
try and try and try as I may ? --did I become that GOOD ? -- IMHO --? NO.--but I am still
trying.

Royalty ?  yes them too.---King Hussein of Jordan was a fine man.-----the cutest of all
  ---Joanne Hull------or Joanne Osterud if you like ---what a girl. I personally strapped
her in her Paper Cup J-3. Her stomach felt like a Boa Constrictor --skin was loose --but
muscles were like a BIG manila Rope.

t.  -----General Twining was standing right in front of Hagar eye ball to eye ball --did
Hagar blink ? --NEVER.----Did Twining blink ? --NEVER.
