Once upon a time, many years ago, my dad was a quality control engineer at
Motorola. They did something very similar with some of the early video
recorders. They plugged in a camera, set up a strobe, and had it record its
own destruction....he said it was really neat to see the screws undo
themselves and go drifting off to the side one by one. Eventually the
recording broke up and went to snow.
They initially got the shaker table to replicate the motions of the Boston
police motorcyles as they ran down cobblestone streets. They used a triaxle
FM recorder to catch the vibrations in real time, then ran it through the
shaker table on the various portable radios. The end result was a radio
more or less impervious to vibration.
