Actually, you are right Hagar, I spent a decade running a crew of mechanics 
on the flight line at San Jose intl, while also serving as consultant to 
maintenance control in Dallas when they needed help on a mechanical failure. At 
other times in my life, I worked on crop dusters, general aviation and business 
jets.   I also have a pilot license and for fun I fly my own sport plane, 
(Trike).  I worked in a Mercedes dealership, on transit buses and light rail trains 
(present job).  I've been running these vw diesels now starting about five 
years ago and have put at least 100000 miles on em, with the accompanying 
maintenance. I humbly submit that it is probably  safe to say I'm a master mechanic.  

I couldn't resist putting a few quotes of late together and wonder if it was 
"magic" or the "nuts and bolts details"  that got man to the moon????



--Timing?  of course it can be a substantial factor, but honestly, I would be 
very curious to know where your "actual" pump timing is set to?  Do you have 
the timing tool?  Can you get hold of one and get a reading?  Do you know the 
breaking pressures you have your injectors set for??  If you could provide 
some actual, specific data, then I would feel like we have something more 
concrete to work with. Sorry, Doug
