I heave read that many places have dropped their fuel tax.  Because diesel 
was being taxed more than gasoline when the tax was removed it had more of an 
effect on diesel.  I also imagine that it is an attempt to control inflation.  
Diesel is more directly responsible for shipping costs.  When it rises the cost 
of everything rises with it.  Gasoline cost has less of an immediate effect 
on the economy, it just sticks it to the public directly.
