[Vwdiesel] 5 speed to 4 speed conversion

Twist the transaxle input shaft whilst moving the gear selector shaft. You can select all gears this way. Compare to your 5 speed.

Hi all,

   My third gear went out a while back one of my
Rabbits.  It was a  5 speed.  A friend is going to
give me a transaxle to replace this one.  I don't
think it's a 5 speed though.  How can you tell if it's
a 5 speed or not?  
If it isn't how hard is it to change the linkage's so
that the 4 speed would work in my 5 speed.
