The stock Jetta cruise control gets its speed info from a reed switch in the
speedometer
 And a curious bit of trivia, the cruise components, made by Bosch, are used
by Yamaha for the factory cruise control in my venture royale motorcycle.
Even the vacuum actuator is a stock volks part!
