  When my 4KQ was totaled (for a fender, door and lower control arm) 
they said they would pay it off for $2100.  I literally laughed in her ear 
and said she was NUTS!  She assured me that was the market value 
of the car.  I assured her I'd JUST bought the car for $2500 knowing full 
well I may have to dump $1000 into it for a new clutch and/or transmission 
plus other undiscovered repairs.  It was bought sight unseen for that price!
She countered that they COULD do a market evaluation as SOME cars 
have slightly higher values in SOME areas.  I said "darn right you will.  
It came back something over $4300!  I still bought it back, fixed it 
partially 
myself, partially the body shop and still put $1000 back in my pocket.  
  All practicality considered I should have just taken the money but it 
was just too nice of a car to let it go to the scrap heap!  Prettiest red 
Quattro I've seen (until my son canned up the rear!)  ;-(
