[Vwdiesel] VW diesel timing

Don't know about the Rabbit but a few months I replaced the head on my Dasher diesel. There is a tool which locks the camshaft into place. The space at the rear of the camshaft is off center so it can only lock in one position. There is an opening in the flywheel housing so if you remove the injectors or glow plugs I would think you could you could turn the engine over by hand till you see TDC or top dead center in the opening. I marked my injector pump so it remained in the same place & with the tool to lock the injector pump in place I was able to do so. This was my first attempt at working on a diesel engine but I must have done it right as it started & run. I have had other interruptions so haven't figured out how to fine tune it. When I find the time to work on it, I will be asking you for advice on how to do it as I think it needs some fine tuning.
