not my area of interest & what I shared is what I learned 30 to 40 years
ago. I will turn 73 years old next 7 May. My particular interest is fuel
economy. Being retired & on a fixed income & fearing we will soon be paying
$5 or more a gallon I can see where the cost of my mobility may become a
serious problem before I become too old to drive. After I get my '81 Dasher
diesel up & running I will take a look at getting the diesel Rabbit with A/C
up, running, & converted to run on throw away French fry oil.
You're only one year ahead of me!
My 87 jetta is running on 50% free used canola from a fry stand, and so is
my 94, in summer. (No mods required, cuts the price of fuel in half)
If I ever get a round toit, I will convert to dual fuel and go 100%.
Here in the great white north, transportation is only half the problem.
Winter heat is the other one. By this fall I hope to have taught a standard
oil furnace to run on canola too.
The next problem will be too many others, and perhaps commercial interests
getting in to the act, and dryiing up the free sources. :-((
I have begun lying to he curious when they ask me if it is difficult to run
a car on veggie.
I tell horror stories about caustic chemicals needed to make biodiesel, and
nightmares of plugged fuel lines, cold weather etc, until they go away.
Don't need any more competitors for the free oil.
And speaking of mobility, or impediment of same, I got a terrible fright
last fall, no, not the minor stroke/TIA, which passed quickly, but the
threat to jerk my driver's licence!
Enough to make me have another one!
