The Audi 5 cyl TD is not much different in weight from the 2.0 100LS based engine in the 924, so weight distribution (nearly 50/50 in a 924) would not suffer.

The 944 and 968 use the same as late 924 - Audi 016 case, mounted in the same way as in the Audis.  Gears and shafts are quite interchangeable.  That is why this is the ultimate easy swap.

I am going to put my 2.0 into my M471/924 to prove the concept, and then consider doing a 968/2.5TDI swap if it works as I think it will.
