The EPA exists as a barrier to trade, has for years, and will continue
to do so clothed in the rags of urban environmentalism. When you
acquire target, this would be a good place to start, as their pro-US
built gasoline powered vehicle bias has been keeping most of the good
stuff out for year and years.
VW has brains, don't worry about that, they just do not wish to part
with the million plus dollars that are required to certify each
powertrain/model line that is imported. The EPA has a legal mandate to
require "testing" of each imported vehicle line, so in typical US
fashion, it has become a tool to limit free and open trade with friendly
nations... hence, as things stand now, it is doubtful we will see true
high mileage vehicles until someone starts building them here
(doubtful)or the EPA places the backs of both hands on their shoulders,
and pushes up firmly to dislodge their heads from where they've been.

> If you go to the link presented & I suggest you do, after reading about the new Golf aka Rabbit, go to the home page & add it to your favorites list, I did. Then check out the Polo link & read about the new Polo Blue Motion. It has a a 3 cylinder TDI that uses less then 4 liters per 100 K or 60 MPG but yet can go over 100 MPH! Wist we could get it in the USA. If VW of America had any brains they would sell it here. Imagine the free advertising they would get when gas hits $5 a gallon & owners are bragging about getting 60+ MPG. If such a car doesn't pass our safety & smog regulations we should badger congress to modify the regulations to allow these cars here.
