I sent a 5spd from Idaho to Illinois via FedEx Ground a year or so ago.
It cost $50 bucks then.

I shipped a Vanagon Syncro transmission via UPS. It was packed in
lots of bubble wrap and two nested cardboard boxes. Total weight was
about 140 lbs (UPS maximum is 150 lbs). Cost $140 to ship from NY to
CA (w/$1500 insurance). Arrived in great shape. Make sure to drain it.
