[Vwdiesel] carbon/soot build up

You don't happen to be running vegetable oil in this car? I have seen huge
soot buildup with waste (or even) fresh vegetable oil conversions.
Biodiesel, on the other hand, seems to keep things clean.*

*But, you will, like me, need to replace a seal on your injection pump.
The old seals don't handle Biodiesel for long.
