1994 FrankenJetta 8v gas converted to 1985 1.6TD.
Just had the shop pull and reseal the injection pump.
2 days later my wife is driving on the highway there is a POP and the
accelerator pedal drops to the floor (Yep, at night in freezing rain in
the middle lane).
The first shop (mostly aircooled) honestly but frustratingly says "I'm
not familiar with that late of model, so I would have to order a new
part and compare them."
A second shop (big import repair place, known for good VW work) will
take a look at it tomorrow, but I"ll have to wait with kids in the tiny
waiting room.
It's not the a1 style with the hook and grommet. Instead it's got a
1/2" long rubber bushing around the end on the cable, and then a
tear-drop plastic piece a few inches in.
On the top of the pedal there is a slot for the cable to fit in.
If I put the teardrop piece in, with the rubber part sticking out an
inch, everything works fine until I let up on the pedal real hard and it
hits the firewall and pops out. Probably not the best plan.
The rubber bushing is too large to fit in the opening, so I can lay the
cable in the slot and the bushing rests on the front and things work
fine until 30-40 miles later when it unexpectedly works its way out.
With this setup the teardrop piece hits the firewall and keeps things
lined up, mostly, but not enough to prevent it from working its way
out..
Am I supposed to somehow compress the rubber bushing and stick it in the
top of the pedal? Am I missing another piece on the cable or pedal that
locks them together?
HELP!
