Some of you may remember that back in April of this year, I had a
catastrophic turbo failure on my 98 Jetta TDI. When I replace the
turbo, I also replaced all of the vacuum lines and in the process
broke off two of the hose barbs from the N75 valve (for you
nonTDIer's, this controls boost and the waste gate). I ordered a new
one and three days later I reinstalled the valve with what I thought
was the correct hose connections. Within a few days, while cruising
down the highway, I went to accelerate and the car felt like it hit a
wall and boost wouldn't exceed 10 psi. I pulled to the road side and
made sure all the connections were in place and then restarted the
car and went on my way with everything working in fine order. This
has happened occassionally ever since, usually when cruising down the
highway on cruise control, but at other times also. Each time it
would reset after a restart (the dreaded "limp mode") I went through
every possible scenario that I could think of. Finally, I dove into
the TDI club archives with the dreaded words "limp mode"! After
about 2 hours with no luck (everything suggested, I had already
done), I came upon a short little post: "Make sure the hoses on the
N75 Valve are correctly connected. They should be connected as
follows.........." DOH!!!!! All my problems solved by switching two
hoses on the N75! Car runs great now and all is right with the
world. Well not really but in my driveway things are looking up. I
will post later about my latest acquisition. Hayden
