[Vwdiesel] Help with ID of an engine

Hi Mike;
	Read the two letter engine code that is stamped on a flat on the
block just under the head above and slightly to the left of the vacuum pump.
I have a VW Audi engine code letters book from 2/1986 which tells the years
and application of all VW and Audi engines from 66 through 86. As far as I
have seen all diesel blocks 86 and earlier are green.

Dear Listees,

Were any of the VW diesel offerings painted green at the factory?  I 
picked up a NA block  w/head at a scrapyard,
and the block is green. The IP is still on it, as is one of those 
boxy-looking A/C compressors (which is mounted on the exhaust-side of 
the engine, and it has some of the hardware for mounting along the 
longitudinal axis instead of transversely.  Just wondering if any of 
this would ring a bell with anyone.
