[Vwdiesel] IP Leak

I read somewhere that the refineries were actually refinning 8 ppm USLD rather than 15 ppm to provide a safety margin of error in order to avoid any federal fines. Apparently, Feds will check diesel at the retail leval for compliance. This also appears why it took so long to bring the sulfur leval down since fuel station storage tanks were not completely empty of the older high sulfur diesel when refilled with ULSD. When the federal requirement was at 500 ppm, Calif. was down to 150 ppm, or was it 100 ppm?, not sure. Calif. reduced the sulfur content years ago & there were complaints of IP failures due to lack of lubricity here in Calif. when the switch was made. I have always added Amsoil "Diesel Fuel Modifier to my diesel so maybe this is why I have not had any problems (so far). I also read that in Europe they add about 2% biodiesel to their USLD for lubricity. I am repeating what I have heard about ULSD & lubricity which might be a cause to IP leaking. I think it would be helpful in stating where you live when discussing these issues since I am guessing the sulfur reduction has been much more severe in the rest of the USA & Canada than in Calif. & this may be the same problems that Calif. experienced years ago. If anything I am saying is incorrect, please correct me for my & others benifit.
