[Vwdiesel] Biodiesel vs Waste Vegetable Oil

If safety is your biggest concern, you got taken with a plastic
processor. Though there are people who very loudly protect them, HDPE
(#2 plastic) processors are -terrible-. For good conversion you must
heat the oil to an elevated temperature; the recommended and recognized
temperature for a good reaction is 55C. HDPE starts getting soft and
pliable around that temperature, and starts melting not too awful much
above that point. Your margin of safety with respect to the heating
aspect is very, very low relative to say steel or stainless steel.
I didn't see any mention of heating method with the B100S "processor"
they offered; for just shy of three grand it should at least have
-something-! The reaction takes place much slower for every so many
degrees under 55C; I believe it's for every ten degrees, the time
required for a given % reaction rate is /doubled/, bringing with it all
the mixing and separation problems inherent with extremely long mixing
times (At room temperature, the reaction can take upwards of 12 hours to
reach equilibrium!). There is also evidence that unheated reactions have
a lower equilibrium point than heated reactions, even after extended
mixing times; your level of unreacted mono-, di- and tri-glycerides is
going to be elevated, and the fuel probably won't even come within
spitting distance of an official specification.
But hey, your money to burn I suppose.

The way the thing is built, it appears to have the reaction of the lye & methonal sealed & is also sealed from the air, I think, when the methonal lye mix interacts with the vegetable oil. I would appreciate your going to that website & evaluate the system, pro or con. If someone is interested in buying the unit, please give them my name so I get a commission, but until I can become more comfortable with the unit I will not recommend for or against the B100S. I might add the B100S is located under a plastic canvas $100 temporary garage which protects against rain but has plenty of air flow. It is closed at one end but open at the other.
