So you are saying that my 50mpg I'm getting on my 91 ECO that has been
converted to a TD with a fresh rebuilt IP and spaceship added to it as well
as a fresh rebuild on the entire engine, (still no oil pressure at 10k miles
on the engine) and a nice 2.5" custom down pipe. I must say the down pipe
it's self is worth its weight in gold if you ask me.
I do notice that it smokes way more in the early COLD mornings until it gets
up to operating temp. I guess that is normal for this diesel? I need to
adjust the pump because the back of the Jetta is pretty black with soot.

Isn't this Jetta the only diesel on the forum that is less economic than the
gasser version? }8OD}
A coulple of MPG improvement could just be the result of reassembly! This
engine should be turned into a boat anchor and a boat anchor turned into an
engine ;op

Yes it is and gee, thanks for the motivational speech! :-P Actually I
think
someone DID get worse mileage than it does but it seems like they
overhauled it and fixed that too. The thing just baffles me as to why
it doesn't do better. I beat and blew out the air filter the other day and
that did seem to help a little. Cold weather is worth a couple mpg at
least as are the winter tires, which I'll soon remove. I believe the tank
I run out if is straight #2 so no winter blend and I KNOW it's all together
correctly! That leaves fuel supply - clean, air supply - a little iffy but
not ALWAYS, exhaust - a possibility I haven't checked yet for clogging,
and last, pump advance. I know timing is correct, never had one not
advance but it doesn't accelerate like Dad's pickup and we built both
engines basically identical and sort of at the same time.
