Easiest would be to find another pump.
What you have is screwed, so tearing it down to see if you can fix is not
going to make it any worse...
Try tightening the capscrews that hold it together first, they may have just
stretched, but the o-ring is probably cut from the fluid leakage.
You will have to check both halves for flatness as well because if the bolts
on one side stretched, the cap may be warped too. I would think lapping on
a sheet of glass, with 400 wet paper would do it.
The drip drip was probably when the bolts got stretched, the spray is when
the o-ring let go.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] FI pump leak, expert help needed
Can any of you VW diesel FI pump experts please help?
The FI pump on the 1980, 1.5L NA engine in my homemade stationary genset has
developed what started a few days ago as a drip-drip into a spray of stinky,
partially atomized diesel fuel coating the floor adjacent to the plant. The
leak is from the gap between the distributor block at the back of the pump
and the body of the pump. It started the other day when I started the
engine in the cold shop when the temperature was about 37C, colded than
normal, and I have straight transformer oil in the fuel tank which is
thicker than diesel fuel. I suspect a viscosity related overpressure event.
What can I do? I do not have money to send the FI pump away for a rebuild.
Could this be as simple as removing the allen head bolts (4?) that hold this
block on and finding a large O-ring that needs replacement?
Thanx for any helpful suggestions.
Rob
