They said that it takes 5
thousand passes with an average car to do the same mount of damage as one
truck makes.

Kinda seems like that would depend on how well the road is ballasted
for the load. County road not expecting anything over 3 axles sure,
Interstate highway designed for multi axle, 80,000 lb truck... It seems
a stretch. Good argument for rail I guess. ;-)
Interesting how our state just implemented a "tonnage" fee for cars.
$10 up to 4,000 then up from there. Retaliation for the $30 car tab
initiative that got voted in a few years ago. They keep tacking on
extra fees, they get repealed, add more, etc. Now it's been deemed
that license plates are too faded for the cops to read in 4 years so we
have to buy new ones of those too. BUT I guess you can pay $20 and
keep your old one instead of the $24 for new ones.
Thought I was making better mileage on the Jetta (tire pressure was
about 28psi instead of 40) then the pump nozzle didn't kick off so an
unknown amount ran out on the ground in front of the farm pump. :-P
That was not a good day.
