Hello everyone... Happy new year an' all that...

OK, this is the situation.... We work with wool.... Shear the sheep, eat
the lambs, and make felts from the wool.
Before we can make the felt we must get the wool "carded"....
To start with, the wool is covered in lanolin... in commercial terms this is
"dirty" wool... the wool is degreased and then taken to be carded. Because
the wool is so clean they spray it with "carding oil" first before they run
it through the machine, it prevents build up of static and lubricates the
process a bit. This gives you nice clean, fluffy wool that feels "dead" and
is very hard work to felt....
In the commercial mills, the wool is all thrown in together, carded and you
get your weight of wool back....

Sorry, I'll get to the point in a minute...

Until now we have had a good supply of "dirty" carded wool but the guy who
has been doing it has now decided to get a life and sold up the business,
machines, everything.... to Estonia...

As our wool is from registered, rare breed, organic sheep, (beautiful
colours, texture etc...) we don't want it washed or mixed with any other
wool so the big commercial carders won't touch it. What we have found
however, is a wonderful old family mill (almost a museum) with hundred year
old, belt driven machines.... processes 25kg a day... perfect.....
BUT...

He insists on spraying the wool with DIESEL !!! The quality of the card is
great and yes there is no smell but...... He insists.... it's always been
that way.... It keeps the machine clean....
I don't know what his father used.... when did they invent diesel??
I'm sure wool carding has been around longer than diesel??

Anyway, this is organic wool we have so what we need is "organic diesel"
Or something with the same properties as diesel....

Any suggestions....?
