[Vwdiesel] driveshaft interchangability

I've got a bit too much invested in it to give up just yet. The current
engine is from the golf, with hydraulic lifters. The engine I pulled,
which ran but may have had a blown headgasket (or not, not entirely
sure), can be had for $50. Just know that I had to pull the injector
pump bracket when I swapped the engines (needed the one with the
passenger side motor mount), so the timing needs to be redone. The 4spd
I pulled I'm holding on to just in case. The motor I pulled was also
only getting about 35mpg, injector pump may have been on its way out.

And to the Andrew's question ... I'll be 21 in March. This is my fifth
car, but I haven't wrecked any of them.
89 Escort GT - radiator hose went, followed by head gasket
87 Fox - sold to buy the ...
94 Toyota Pickup - very nice, but couldn't keep 2 cars, so sold
82 Rabbit Diesel - Free, but not running. Had problems, so I bought ...
85 Golf Diesel - severe rust/body damage from previous accident (not
mine!)
and now back with the 82 Rabbit, with the Golf's engine/transaxle

Reasons not to junk the Rabbit yet
Brand new:
struts/springs
clutch
tires
radiator/hoses
water pump
timing belt
exhaust (*everything*, down pipe to exhaust tip)
steering rack/tie rods/ends
CV joint (on the busted axle ... damn)
engine mounts
speedometer cable
intake/exhaust/oil pump/oil pan/valve cover gaskets

not quite new:
front seats/seat belts/steering wheel/engine/transaxle from the Golf

Probably a few things in each catagory that I've forgotten ...
