Johann-
I also enjoy playing in the snow with my car, though
to really get good slides in a FWD vehicle, you have
to be going in reverse!
Just next time, watch out for the banks!
You are right about the control arm, they are totally
different.
However, I think the driveshaft should fit, with one
caveat.
I'm gonna guess that the drive flanges on the '82
trans are 90 mm, and that the flanges on the '85 Golf
are 100 mm.
So, the inner CV joint will be bigger than the flange
on the transmission, which gives you two options:
you can switch the inner CV joint from the '82 shaft
to the Golf shaft (I would probably choose this
option, and would use a new boot).
Or, you could switch the drive flange on the
transmission to the bigger one. One would be a little
more difficult than changing the joint on the shaft,
but I would do both sides which would mean also
changing the shaft on the other side.
Does this make sense? Sometimes I'm not sure I'm
geting it across clearly.
