Not often. I was asked to do a clutch many years ago, in a 914.

My experience is that a diesel clutch tends to last longer. You don't
need to slip it as much to keep from killing it. All that low end torque.
Stop and shake sounds more like soft motor mounts. Never noticed
it in the Dasher nor the 5000, both longitudnal. Dad's Cummins tends to
a tad but then it stops so fast you get a little sneeze out of the serpentine
belt nearly every time.
