That looks like a wonderful project opportunity for some experienced DIY'er.
I've added it to my watched items out of curiosity to see what the price
goes to.
I have given thought on several occasions to refitting a small, light
automobile with a diesel engine and electric drive with batteries,
regenerative braking, etc. The project would be just too high risk I fear
for the amount of return. You would end up spending more on such a project
(if you value your time at minimum wage and actual cost of parts including
running around looking for them) as you could buy a commercial offering for.
You could not insure it for replacement value the same way you could a
commercial offering, and sure as hell someone's daft offspring would crash
into it causing a total loss shortly after you got it finally on the road
after years of painstaking effort.
IMO, cars have to be treated pretty much as disposable despite this being at
odds with their high investment cost.
