There was never a V6 diesel in any Chrysler US product. Briefly, if memory serves me, it was 1976 to 1979 that you could get a B100 pickup with a very gutless 4.0 litre Mistubishi industrial engine. It wasn't bad with a 4 speed, but barely got out of its own way when coupled to a 727. However, the fuel economy was out of this world (like 30+).
The 4.3 V-6 GM diesel used in the J-series FWD cars was a 5.7 with two cylinders cut off. The 5.7 is an engine with a horrible reputation, but later versions of it were actually quite reliable. When fitted with head studs instead of bolts, downright solid! There are still some 5.7 diehards, and they support the 4.3 - the rarest of the rare, and something that will bolt right up to any GM small corporate bellhousing!!!! If only I had the time, I would find myself a rust-free (as in not from around here) S-10 Blazer 2 door 2.8 or early Squarokee (also 2.8) and bolt a 4.3 in there. Too many other swaps to do first.
