thanks for the clarification everyone!
I'll take a look at the vacuum pump diapraghm.

however, i do notice that the brake light likes to flicker, around turns,
bumps , etc...
i'm not sure whether to correlate the two issues, or write off the flicker
for 'old wiring'.
