It could be the start of an Urban Legend.  I can see the print in the 
PartsPlaceInc catalog.  "Yes, you CAN run your TDI with the Rabbit Jetronic ECU.  
We've heard that there's a guy in Alaska doing it!  We don't have the full dope 
on the situation but we're working on it.  It's not a direct bolt-on, so don't 
come whining to us if the thingamajiggy doesn't fit in the whatchamacallit!"  
Jetronic ECU's only $1,495 (slightly cosmetically damaged in the shipping 
container from timbuktu, some broken connectors and cracked microchips, but we had 
our cyanoacrylate professionals rework them so their as Good As New and even 
more expensive).
