Tends to sound like injectos then. Not a lot of oil in the air cleaner,
they do have a light wind of blowby normally so it may or may not
have abnormal blowby and if it smelled like oil you'd KNOW it! :-o

Leaking heat shield sounds like so it's all carboned up. Use a copious
amount of your favorite penetrant on both the stuck shield and injector.
Soak a day or two and keep it soaked. For the injector PUSH only on your
RIGHT side as you face the enigne. Do not pull or you could crack the
"bulge" part of the head where the injector is. If a some pushing and
tapping
doesn't do it do you have access to an impact wrench? That is actually the
recommended method. Rattle them out, torque them in, again pushing not
pulling outboard on the head.
For the shield just keep scraping and tugging. A small, T-handle, 90
degree
bent ended body dent puller is REALLY nice as it'll get under it, you can
pull
well and it doesn't tend to bend or break. You can also check that all's
clear,
throw a rag over the hole and crank the engine over a couple times to see if
the compression will blow it out for you. It mostly takes a lot of picking,
scratching and scraping.
