Still pull the pump for a look. If it was like mine, it could have failed quickly. In my
case, there was a very intermittent case of blow by in the engine. Every once in a while,
the crankcase would get pressurized by it and that pressure hit the pump through the
exhaust port hose (that connects to the block), or in another case oil mist from that same
line rotten out the rubber diaphram. My fix was to add a tee fitting at the pump and
another at the valve cover breather hose. Then I added a hose to tie the block, pump,
valve cover breather and intake all into one open system. That way, any crankcase
pressure or oil fumes gets sucked into the intake and I had no more vacuum pump problems.
