I can't afford a near new TDI now but if your looking for one now I would, in addition to the TDI Club would suggest checking Craig's List in various cities, eBay & newspaper adds in various cities, especially in those states other than Calif. & other states such as NY,Mass., Vermont & other states that copy California's more stringent CARB rules. My understanding is in order to legally bring a TDI into Calif. it must show it has at least 7,500 miles or more on the odometer at time of sale, not when you register the TDI in Calif. I also heard it must be at least one year old from the date it was first sold as a new vehicle but don't know this for sure. I am originally from Minn. & routinely look at the Minneapolis Star Tribune website www.startribune.com & on one Mpls area VW dealer web add found a number of TDIs at prices cheaper than found in the TDI Club adds. Also, watch out for flood cars from Katrina. If I were to try & buy a TDI now I think I would try & find a VW dealer certified used TDI. However, it is my opinion, & opinion only that TDI prices will start dropping when diesels from other makes start appearing, which I think will start with the 2008 model year.
