Yeah, but the first two times he didn't replace the
bolt.  

When he finally replaced the bolt, it stopped
breaking.  Or at least hasn't until 35,000 miles.

I agree that 200K on the first one is a very
reasonable amount.  Was something replaced or changed
before it was broken?

I'm gonna guess that you simply got unlucky. 
Unfortunately, it was unlucky to the tune of a lot of
money.  

I would say your best bet, at least to start out,
would be diplomacy with VW.  I think they should pay
to have your engine fixed (or at least a generous
chunk of it) just for the customer satisfaction part
of it.  Then go from there...

If not, park your car across the dealership where you
bought the bolt with a big sign on the side that says
"BOB'S VW SCREWED ME!"  They'll likely change their
tune pretty quickly.  But you didn't hear that from
me...
