I am an old car & antique radio collector. I used to live in Mpls., Minn. & moved to Calif. in 1969. One thing I have noticed in old cars is that certain things deterioate more quickly in different parts of the country. In most of Calif. & the southwest, cars do not rust out unless they spend most of their life close to the coast, maybe a half mile or less. However, the sun beats down on these cars & destroys the interior & rubber parts. Chrome parts last better in Ariz. & other dry areas than in LA due to smog. In the cooler parts of the rust belt, cars tend to rust ouf before the interiors deterioate or wear out mechanically. Therefore, in that low mileage Rabbit diesel that spent most of its life in southern Calif. & may have its interior trashed, but is now in NY., you would probably be able to find a rust bucket parts car with a good interior cheap & make one good car out of two.
