What does yours have for breather hoses? Most are from the valve
cover to the intake, which is actually uphill until you hit the elbow going
into the intake. The "improved" version T's out of the valve cover and T's
into the case breather (early, carburetted, gasser fuel pump location) to
vacuum pum exhaust hose.
In my Jetta's case it was rings causing oil usage due to incorrect
honing. Easy test if it's blowby or internal is to disconnect the breather
hose (for cleanliness stick the end in a milk jug or such) and then do your
highway test run. If it stops then some oil seperation will help. If it's
stlll
doing it then you have valve stem seals or rings. There's always the
possibility of stuck rings so a little soaking or a run of synthetic oil
might free them up and all be well.
