[Vwdiesel] excessive oil consumption

Hi Clint;
If it was my engine I would do a compression check before anything
else. If you have good compression then proceed to isolate the problem. If
compression is bad then the prudent thing is probably to rebuild the engine.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] excessive oil consumption

I think I know what it is.. The car runs great (starts good too!) and idles
smooth and will do so all day in city driving. But if you put more than a
few miles on it on the highway it smokes a bit (well, it smokes most times.
but worse off the highway) and idles really rough, if you give it just a bit
of fuel the engine races for a second or two and a big puff of smoke. I
suspect its blow by carrying oil in to the intake that is causing this
because I have repaired all the external oil leaks. The blow by this engine
has is not what I would call excessive however the plumbing to handle it
runs basically downhill from the top of the valve cover to the intake
allowing oil to just run in to the engine. What have people done to fix
this? The engine is out of an 86 Golf and still has the golf intake and air
filter box on it. But it is in an 83 rabbit I picked up fer free :-)

Thanks!

Clint

p.s. this car has the aftermarket bher a/c system, anyone have a parts car
with parts for it? I have everything in the dash, nothing under the hood
(cept the compressor bracket)
