 IIRC that has nothing to do with oil separation.  It's an anti overpressure 
device similar to what Ford pickups have (at least the older diesel ones.)
I can't remember exactly how it works but something to do with more 
pressure in the intake than the crankcase or vise versa.
  Re-ringing on wear limit cylinders does tend to at least use oil.  I never 
had any problem with bad blowby until I tried filing down first over rings 
to fit the worn cylinder.  ;-)  Didn't quite match the shape I guess.
