[Vwdiesel] Missing heat shield part

Gang,

Interesting problem...pulled injectors which I put into a head 
I installed on a 91 NA, and found that injector #2 was missing 
the heatshield.  Well at least the central part of it.  The 
periphery of the heatshield was intact.

I can't see any heatsield floating around the precombustion chamber,
and dropping a pickup magnet in there doesn't get anything.  The 
glowplug appears to be unscathed.  

I'm perplexed. 

Anyone have anything similar to this happen, and what was found?
