[Vwdiesel] Alternator adjustable regulator

I removed the Motorola 60 amp alternator in my pickup and put in a used Bosch 90amp 14Volt replacement. Required making a longer slot in upper bracket, enlarging a bolt hole in housing, slightly reducing mounting ear thickness and changing belt size. Installed Bosch adjustable regulator on the housing, which contains the brushes. Part number Transpo IB 373A.
   
  Get 14.2 volt no load and drops to 13.6 volt when aircon and headlights turned on. I think there was a little metal adjuster on the regulator that has fallen out. Under load isn't voltage supposed to return to the 14.2volts? Could this indicate a diode problem?
