"The car will go on a trailer to the local (old school) VW tech, so he can
do
all the timing and valve adjustment for me. Unless one of you wants to make
a bit extra money. ;-) On that subject, is there a good place to get the
valve adj tool and shims for reasonable? How often do most of you do yours?"
I have not looked at my timing once I got it set after I installed the
engine in the car. I set mine at 1mm. I probably should check it and see
where it stands. Since mine is a 91 ECO converted to a true turbo with the
added LDA I probably could advance the timing some.
As for the tools to check the timing, you can find them on Ebay some times
for a good price. I bought mine from Jack at vwdieselparts.com all you need
is a depth dial gage and an adapter to attach it to the pump with a long
enough reach rod to go inside the pump to ride on the cam.
Where are you located? I'm in North Carolina, speaking of which it was an
awesome day today, sunny and high of 83F.
