[Vwdiesel] 93 VW Eurovan IP problems ??

hey all
wondering what a failing IP acts like...

I am having HARD startup on a vehicle that went chick-vroom just a  
couple days ago
throbbing/surging when cold

I replaced DSL filer and inline final fuel filter (my van has 2-fuel  
system and runs on veggie)(but most problems seem to be on the DSL side)

bad fuel? fuel-switching solenoid?

had an incident yesterday driving 4 hrs to my sister's for Bird Day -  
stalled half-way there and wouldn't restart
finally tracked down to inline fuse from ignition that was feeding  
fuel switching valve and boost VO pump
bypassed that (I think solenoid was stuck 1/2 way between fuels) and  
got back up and running
I can get around now, but still something not right
like I said, HARD starting when cold w/ throbbing

thoughts?
