Only the old-style radios with two knobs will fit the original opening.
HOWEVER, using a razor knife, a drill, and a lot of patience you can enlarge
the opening to fit the modern "1 DIN" size radios. To do this, get the
dimensions of a "1 DIN" from, perhaps, Best Buy, or Circuit City, and on the
back of your dash lay down masking tape larger than this dimension. Now, on
the masking tape, mark out the area that needs to be cut. Using a 1/8"
drill make numerous drills into the plastic so that the outer edge of the
drill is INSIDE the drawn line. One you've make about 100 drillings, use a
sharp, new razor blade to cut out the plastic. The result should be nearly
perfect.
I just did this last week and installed a wonderful new SONY am/fm/CD/MP3
satellite ready unit in my 81 Rabbit Caddy.
Good luck,
