Huh?  Diesel costs about 10% more than gas and that's not worth
making 50% better mileage???  Most gassers use more parts/labor
than a diesel.  The real difference is in the fueling and for about $600
you can completely rebuild the pump and injectors.  Pay someone to
do it and add another $300-ish to it.  That'll hold it for 150K miles on
the injectors and 300K miles or so on the pump generally.
Most of the rest happens similarly between the cars.  You can't hardly
take a gasser to a shop for less than $250 to $350!  Quite often it's easier
to DIY than on a gasser.  As for head gaskets, sometimes they hold and
sometimes they blow but most of the time it's due to low coolant.  Yeah
they're unforgiving about that but as for more costly than saving nearly half

the "per mile" driving costs over a gasser???  I obviously tend to lean the
other way.  ;-)
With a TD there's really no power compromise and I've been REALLY
happy with my 48hp 1.5 Rabbit and I DON'T like to drive slow!

PS Hayden I believe it's spelled Yunick.  Didn't realize he'd said that!
I've always said HP is what you brag to your friends about, torque is
what turns the wheels.  I think my Rabbit has a few more pounds of
feet than most 1.5's.  :-)
