If it makes you feel better, you can stuff a TDI in there.  Mine's 
always (at least when running right) dead center on the gauge.  It's 
almost creepy after years of driving A1s and A2s;  I'd gotten to expect 
to see the gauge drift around.

Or, on some TDI pumps, plastic impeller.  Not such a good idea :(
