[Vwdiesel] What makes an injector stick and make a sound like you have blown a lifter

OK Injector re-builders, can you answer me this.
Every so often, one of my injectors sticks and makes a
load taping noise and the cyl. does not fire.
These were brand new 1.9NA injectors with about 18K
miles on them now. When this first happened, just
after I got the new 1.9na motor running years ago, I
figured the motor was toasted right away. Had it
towed back to the shop that helped me time it and
start it. The old German guys says, oh, that is just
a stuck injector, he loosened the fuel line to it, it
stopped, and all was well. It did it again a month
later, shut the motor off, re-start it, all is fine,
never did it again for a long time.

It has done it 2 times now that the motor is running
again, shut the motor down, restart, all is fine.
Never does it under load, only does it at coasting or
idle.

So, what is going on in there to make this happen?

Next time it happens, it there any harm in letting the
motor run this way until I can get the motor cover off
and try to pin point which one is doing it so I can
have it taken apart and inspected or fixed?

Thanks, Bryan from NJ.
