Urgent!....Check the oil level in your tranny. It may be low or out.
Dive under the hood down the back of the tranny under the coolant reservoir,
remove the screw that holds the speedometer cable fixture in, and work it
out (the gear comes with it
There should be oil visible, and covering the hole that the speedo gear fits
in to..
If you only see the pilot hole for the gear, it is out of oil.
If in doubt, drain the tranny and add 2Litres of #80-90 gear oil (2 QtsUS is OK)
Those were the symptoms I had last winter on the way to my camp. Stiff
shifting into any gear, whine in 5th..I drove slowly, stayed out of 5th, and
found a couple of bottles of outboard motor lower unit oil in the shed at
the camp...that got me 70 miles to home, where I did the honest thing,
drained and refilled with gear oil.
OK ever since.
