[Vwdiesel] HELP - WHEEL FELL OFF !!!

93 Eurovan Diesel
only going 5MPH, thankfully

but what does that left side axle bolt into that used to be in the  
tranny bellhousing but is now hanging 2" out and letting tranny fluid  
leak all over the ground?
(sent my Bentley along to the shop with the van, so I have no  
explosion diagrams to consult)
