[Vwdiesel] ULSD sightings

Just did get started on researching that mess. It's officially known
as D15, which has superceded D500 and upwards.
Known issues for older models include less resistance to gelling,
which will require ULS kerosene for winter blends, which nobody seems to
have figured out how to make, let alone distribute. Also, there seems to be
some concern that it will dissolve D500 deposits in tanks and fuel systems,
so changing fuel filters may become more frequent. Finally, additives must
be compatible with the D15 mandate, and are *supposed* to be so labelled.
At this point, a 1992 CARB- style fiasco is merely a matter of
conjecture, but pump seal failures are acknowledged as a possibility in
"older" models. The use of D15 compatible additives seems to be encouraged
as a preventive measure.
Additional unknown repercussions include effects on fuel prices,
which at this point locally are 50-65 cents per gallon higher than regular
unleaded.
All this, naturally, plays a role in why 2006 & 7 model year Diesel
cars will be scarce, although provision was made for allowing in 2007 m.y.
vehicles with 2006 engines.
Who's the leader of the club that's made for you and me.....?

>I was filling up in a good part of town today (I could tell because the
well-dressed lady in the land frigate on the other side of the pump got back
in her car and didn't come out until I'd gone) and saw, for the first time,
that the pump was labelled as ultra-low sulphur Diesel. I'd figured that it
would have to come out soon to be in time for the 2007 model year cars that
apparently self-destruct when run on merely low sulphur fuel.
